Your place in the world

Your place in the world matters. You KNOWING ABOUT your place in the world also matters.

When you know your place in the world, it empowers you. When you’re empowered you recognise what’s already good and you’re emboldened to make things even better.

How do you know what your place in the world is?

The people – People depend on you. Family members depend on you to take care of them, co-workers depend on your expertise, businesses depend on your commerce and even strangers may depend on you for something as small as your morning smile in a busy commute. To various degrees, you make these people’s lives better, you matter to them. You have a place in their world.

Your contribution – How do you offer love and support to your family and friends? What skills do you offer your peers? What hope and inspiration are you giving people around you, that you know of and that you don’t, with your actions and your ideas? What challenges do you impose on people due to your actions and inactions? Your actions have consequences, for better or for worse, on those around you. Choose to act in a manner that makes the world more of what you would like it to be.

You are the focus of other people’s affection – It’s not just about what you offer others, but also about how you receive them. People around you are also trying to define themselves, their contributions, and their place in the world. They want you to accept their love, they want you to respect them professionally, they want you to appreciate their help, they want their smile to matter. They want to have a place in your world, they want their place in the world to matter.

We are all trying to assert our place in the world. We depend on each other for affirmation that we have a place and our place matters.
