If it hurts, it matters.

If it hurts your feelings, it touched something that matters.

We don’t form feelings towards people, places, events or things that are insignificant; those come and go as background to the story that we are living through. Being part of the background, these have little hold of our mind or our heart. However, having formed an opinion or a clear feeling about particular people, places, events or things, brings them to the forefront of our experience. Contradictions of these opinions or feelings are uncomfortable and even hurtful, as they force us to re-evaluate the importance of, the thoughts about and our feelings towards these people, places, events and things. And this is a GOOD thing – you WANT to clarify your thoughts, crystalise your feelings and ensure that your mind and heart are saved for what truly matters in your life, and what shouldn’t matter can take a backseat in your story.

If it hurts your body, it shows your body is fighting to stay strong.

When we are healthy and our body works to its optimum, we often take the pain-free experience for granted. But when things start to hurt, that’s when we notice that our body is also constantly adjusting and fighting to be strong. Of course, one must take necessary precautions and get advice from a medical professional to ensure all is well. Simultaneously, it is worth acknowledging the fighting power of our body and its communication to us that it is doing what it can subconsciously, but it’s time that we help take care of it consciously. Make sure you’re rested, make sure you eat well, make sure you’re hydrated, make sure you exercise, make sure you hug, make sure you laugh – you are the only one that has to live in your body, take care of it well for an optimal “lived-in experience”.

If it hurts your spirit, it means you are in continued search for meaning of life.

In our search for the meaning of life, we may go through concepts of the Universe, quantum physics and the questions of Divine presence in the world. These spiritual quests give us definition beyond the 3 dimensions of our existence, they offer us reason for existence and how we connect to the conscious and unconscious world beyond our day-to-day reasoning and understanding. Feeling of pain and betrayal on the spiritual level are a push to continue to explore, continue in our search for the meaning of life and the reason for our existence. With every piece of this great puzzle in place, a sense of great peace awaits. When we are at peace, our spirit cannot be hurt.

Hurt is affirmation that you have not become numb to life.

You are weighing what matters, you are accepting your physical and your emotional vulnerabilities, and you are reconfiguring to reach an understanding of the world that can withhold life’s blows.
