Time away

Time away is a void waiting to be filled. Do we fill the void with what we went away from now? Do we fill the void with what we neglected years previous? Do we fill the void with something new? Time away is a good opportunity to assess the blocks of time with which we’ve built our palace of life, and make sure that the blocks that follow will make for a strong and spectacular palace to live in, in the limited time we have on this Earth.

Have you ever felt like you need time away from your mind, from your thoughts and from your feelings? It can be done. You can immerse yourself into a totally different state of being by watching a film, reading a book, listening to music, or interacting with nature. If you feel incredibly angry, a calm song (which needs to be one that you actually like) can bring you to a state of mind wherein you can relax. If you feel numb to emotions, watching the sea slam waves into rocks can ignite a feeling of empowerment. If you are drowning in overthinking details in your life, watching a film with a simple plot can give you an idea of how to uncomplicate things in your own life (if they were to be made as a film that someone else were to watch). If your thoughts are blank and you are lacking inspiration, reading a book can awaken your passionate opinions, be it because you are inspired by the content you are reading or because you utterly disagree. Time away from your emotions and thoughts provides an opportunity to make new sense of what you are thinking and feeling now and invite new thoughts and emotions for the future.

Have you ever felt like you need time away from your body? Maybe because you don’t feel that your body reflects how you want to look, maybe because you are ill and suffering from discomfort or pain, or maybe because the mortality of the physical body is sometimes too much to bear. It can be done. On your own or with someone’s help, you can be guided to a meditative space totally detached from your body – you do this every time you dream in your sleep and every time you daydream when you’re awake. You can lie down in your bed, in the grass, in a pool, and then imagine your surroundings, even imagine yourself looking from the outside and seeing your body relax.  Time away from your body gives you an opportunity to greet yourself as an outsider and give yourself emotional support and practical ideas of how you can get through the struggles that you’re in and make the body the home your soul loves to live in.

Have you ever felt like you need time away from people in your life? Maybe people that you are contemplating totally shunning out of your life, and maybe people that are an unconditional fixture that you can’t completely walk away from? It can be done. One way is to make time for new people that would better support and fulfil your social aspirations, this will naturally squeeze out the time you have for others, including (especially) those you need time away from. You don’t have to be physically away to get time away. As if this were a film, you can change the role people have in your life. Remove them from a key character status and view them as an “extra” or a “stage fixture”; they will still be present, but the amount of time and emotions you need to invest to them will be significantly reduced.

Time away is a natural need to review, reframe and renew the reality in which we live in. If you feel an urge for that time away, then you need to find a way to give yourself that space. When you create distance in your mind, in your emotions and even just physically you give yourself an opportunity to see where things naturally lead, how the space naturally fills and what true life you naturally live.
