When do you get to think anymore?

Do you want to watch the moment or do you want to be in the moment

Do you ever think anymore? I don’t mean about things you have to do, goals you want to achieve or action plans. I mean just think, randomly, unfiltered, unplanned, unguided… just think.

I don’t mean remembering a dream that somehow made sense when you were asleep, but in your waking-hours seems weird and surreal. I mean consciously observing your thoughts pop up, noticing what events and what stories your brain instinctively clumps together.

I don’t mean a moment of “wow that would make a good Twitter/Instagram post”. I mean, a good amount of time (could be 1 hour, 30 minutes, 10 minutes…) of no one else, nothing else, nowhere else but your mind popping out thoughts.

Are we able to do this anymore? Just thinking, no outside interference. Instead of watching nature on a screen, being in nature with our body. Instead of hearing music through devices, becoming part of the music through our rhythm. Instead following people online, being ourselves and following our passions. Instead of valuing righteous causes others thought up, appreciating the value of our contribution to our family, our community and the world at large.

We don’t just need to eat, sleep and exercise. We need to think, it’s the human miracle. Give yourself that time.

Expose yourself to the world, but remember that YOU ARE A SIGNIFICANT PART of the world.

So, take a moment to put aside other people’s songs, other people’s stories, other people’s values. Use that moment to just be YOU on your own with your thoughts, your observations, your interpretations, your tunes, your story, your conclusions.

A flower needs water, but too much will drown it; a flower needs sun but too much will dry it; a flower needs food, but too much will choke it; drowned, dried, choked, that flower will not blossom. But given a moment of scarcity, the flower will seek the food, it will search to find water, it will manoeuvre through the earth to find the sun and it WILL blossom.

Forget about everything else that’s going on for a moment. Look up, and let your thoughts burst out like a blossoming flower.
