Live the dream (as you fall asleep)
It’s 10pm… now 11pm… oh no, past midnight, what?! 1am.. countdown to the alarm going off. I need sleep. But my mind won’t stop. So many thoughts from the day, from before, from what-ifs…
Here’s something to try, make your dream become your reality of your sleep tonight.
Imagine the dream that you want. Make it as magnificent or as calm, as fantastical or based in reality as you want. It can be anything and everything and even just a little thing. Make it matter, not just a “meh, I wouldn’t mind dreaming that”, but rather “what an inspiring dream! I was totally in the moment! Totally at peace!”. And then imagine the details, as many as you can. Who is in the dream? What are you all wearing, who is facing who? What else is in the dream? Trees? Flowers? Animals? What colours do you see? What sounds can you hear? Can you feel a breeze? Is it warm or cold? Is it a story where characters interact? Or is it just a moment of awe and wonder? How are you moving? Are you standing? Walking? Running? Skipping? How are your muscles feeling in the motion/ or lack of motion? How are you breathing?
Go on and on until you sense the wonder that you want to be dreaming about. Try guiding your body to relax by guiding your mind to create the place/ the time/ the moment you want to be in. Your body rests as it dissolves into a story you enjoy; your mind rests as it forgets the frustrations of reality. Dream while you’re awake until you drift into sleep. Live your dream as you fall asleep.
Try.
