You Are Who You Are

You are who you are now. There’s no “in the process of becoming”, because if you see yourself as being “in the process” then you’re not seeing yourself as the person you aspire to be, rather constantly reminding yourself of the person you wish you were not.

If you see yourself as someone who “completed a journey”, then all you’re doing is looking at the past, but not embracing the persona that you “journeyed to” and that will take you to the future.

If you see yourself as an amalgamation of positive traits with some disputable faults, then you are preventing yourself from seeing the whole of who you are, your purpose and intention in the bigger picture of life.

You need to know who you are so you know that what you do is a choice. You can choose to do things aligned with who you are or that contradict who you are. If they’re aligned, they’re more likely to come easily, bring to your life the kind of experiences you wish to be part of and the people you love to be with. If what you do does not align with who you are, you’re more likely to experience discomfort, anxiety, be in situations you wouldn’t want to be in and spending time with people you’d prefer not to be around.

How do you know who you are? You reflect on the positives of life – what human gestures make you smile, why do you love the people that you love, what life experiences give you a sense of fulfilment? You contemplate what brings all people, nature and otherworldly entities together on a spiritual level. You define what virtues you bring to the world and how you have made the world a better place.

Notice there are no questions about what you are not, what you don’t like and what you don’t do. Those questions are irrelevant to understanding who YOU ARE. They are a distraction in an endless space where YOU ARE but a mere star, a bright & wonderful star amongst other stars. So don’t waste time on defining the void that surrounds you, it’s too big and there are too many unknowns. Focus on defining the star that you are.

So, you’re not ‘a person struggling with their weight’, rather you are a healthy person; a healthy person who is acting in a certain way and is now choosing to act in a way that better reflects who you are, be it eating better, exercising, sleeping, laughing with friends, there are endless ways to act as the healthy person you are.

And, you’re not ‘a person looking for a job’, rather you are a successful and talented person; one who is acting in a certain manner to build up experience and contacts that lead to the lifestyle that best shows the kind of successful and talented person that you are.

You are not ‘a changed person’ who came from a failed past and is now an inspiring figure for having beaten the failure to become a success. You are who you are, and in your struggles, you have learned lessons about how you deal with obstacles and in your success, you are learning how to be humble in your fortune. You are who you are, you learn different things about who you are and you face the future with all that you’ve learned about who you are.

You are who you are and that’s a wonderful thing.
