There’s more to this story…
We only live in a short moment in time. Maybe we know a little about what came before, maybe we know a little about what’s coming after. But it will only be a little. There’s more to the story – soooooo much more. How many things had to happen for this to happen as it did, and what will this lead to in the future? What decisions did we make that brought us to be part of what has happened and knowing what we know, what will we choose now? How many people were involved in the chain of events and how many people will be affected by this in the future?
You have an idea, it’s a wonderful idea! How did it come about? And how is it going to affect the future? Why does this matter? Because there is more to this story than just a random idea. But will overanalysing the path ruin the ‘magic’ of the destination? Maybe, but maybe it will give you an idea (another one) on how you come about a wonderful idea. And when you know that, then you can make the ‘magic’ happen on demand. Will knowing the future kill the thrill? It might make you less naïve about solutions you come up with, and because of that, it will encourage you to make “magic” that is better and long lasting.
When you find yourself in a situation, you look at the circumstances that you’re living in – your health, your career aspirations, your personal growth – can you identify what brought you to where you are today? Can you recall what decisions you made that brought you to where you are today? Why do we need to know so much about this specific situation? Because there is more to this story than just this specific moment in time. Being able to recognise the actions that you took that brought you to where you are today will necessarily empower you to choose the actions that will create your circumstances of the future. It’s not always comfortable to recognise how our actions lead to less desirable circumstances, but better that we know. And it is sometimes awkward to admit that our actions lead to success, but again, it’s better that we know. Empower yourself by recognising that your actions are a significant part of all that is happening to you and around you.
Now, with your ideas and your actions things happened. But these things didn’t happen in a vacuum, other people were involved and other people will be affected. Who? How? Why does it matter? Because there is more to this story than just the ideas we have, the way that we are and the people that we see. People that we know of and that we don’t, affect our lives. It may be that an idea we had and actions we took really helped to someone, who was then motivated to take action that helped someone else, who was then inspired to come up with an idea that helped us and the cycle of positive support to people we know (and people we don’t) continues.
So, there is always more to a story than we realise initially. It’s worth wondering about. When you know more about the story, you have more ideas of what could be accomplished, you have more motivation to take action and you have more appreciation for how others contributed in (ideally) bettering your life. When we understand that we are all essential puzzle pieces in this world that we share, we have a better appreciation of the bigger picture and more ideas of how we can make the picture even better.
